Wellalage’s center piece playmaker display with bat and ball saw the Lankan skipper take his side to within 5 runs from victory when he exited for a 71-ball half century inclusive of 4 boundaries and a six. It was his second 5 wicket haul following his 5 against Scotland in the previous game.
Sri Lanka’s run chase was sustained by a 55-ball 70-run fifth wicket partnership between Wellalage and Anjala Bandara who struck 33 off 42 balls with 2 boundaries followed by 52 for the sixth wicket off 55 between Wellalage and Ranuda Somaratne who was unbeaten on 32 off 35 containing 4 boundaries. Chamindu Wickramasinghe chipped in with a brisk 24 off 19 with 3 to the ropes.
Top scorer for Australia was Campbell Kellaway with 54 off 77 with 5 fours and a six followed by 22 by William Salzman and 21 by Nivethan Rajakrishnan. The other Lankan wicket takers were Treveen Mathew 2 for 32 and Matheesha Pathirana 2 for 34.
