Sri Lanka to field 9 athletes for Tokyo Paralympics 2020

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Tokyo Paralympic Games 2019 scheduled to be held in Japan from 24th August to 5th September2021. National Paralympic Committee of Sri Lanka will be fielding a group of athletes to this event with a view of bringing glory to our motherland.

National Paralympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NPC Sri Lanka) will be sending annine-strong contingent of athletes and their Coaches, Managers and Admin officials making it a maximum of 17 to TokyoParalympics 2020.

Sri Lankan athletes have qualified to represent Sri Lanka at the Olympics in Track and Field, Roving,Archery and Wheel Chair Tennis.List of athletes who will be taking part in the Tokyo Paralympic 2020

1. MG Sampath Bandara – Archery
2. Dinesh Priyantha Herath – Javelin
3. Samitha Dulan – Javelin
4. Sampath Hettiarachchi – Javelin
5. Kumudu Priyanka – 100m/ Long Jump
6. Saman Subasinghe – 400m
7. Palitha Bandara – Shot Put
8. Mahesh Jayakody – Roving
9. DS Darmasena – W/Tennis

Sri Lanka qualified for a Rowing event for the very first time in the history of Paralympics
According to the Chef De Mission Maj. Gen Rajitha Ampemohotti Sri Lanka expected to win at least two medals as they have done in two previous Paralympics, London 2012 and Rio 2016.
At the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London, Sri Lanka won their first Paralympic medal through
Pradeep Sanjaya, who won the Bronze medal in the Men’s 400 meters T46. At the 2016 Summer
Paralympics in Rio, Sri Lanka won a bronze. Dinesh PriyanthaHerath was placed 3rd in the men’s javelin throw F46 final.

Lt Col Deepal Hearth The Newly elected President of the NPC said that Sri Lankan contingent expected leave the Island on August 19 they have under gone all health regulations specified by the Tokyo Paralympc Organizers and will be stayed in a Bio Bubble during the entire period of the games.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
