Warner Century secured victory for Aussies

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]It was an horrible day with the ball for the visiting lions as the Australians put together a dominating performance to register a massive 134 run victory in the first T20 at Adelaide today.

Skipper Malinga won the toss and elected to field first. Things started off well with both Pradeep and Malinga bowling good lines and lengths. But, once Finch and Warner assessed conditions, Lankan bowlers had no answer. Kasun Rajitha, who bowled well in the warm up was taken to the cleaners. He conceded 75 runs in his four innings overs, which is the most on T20, a record no one wants to have.

The two wrist spinners struggled in the middle as Warner and Maxwell used their feet and the sweep to good use. Nuwan Pradeep was the only bowler to keep it under 10 runs per over. Both Finch and Maxwell scored brisk half centuries but, it was the maiden century in T20’s for Warner which took center stage.

The run chase got off to a horrible start with Kusal Mendis being dismissed in the first over for a duck. The stars from the Pakistan tour, Dhanushka Gunathilaka and Bhanuka Rajapaksha was dismissed in successive deliveries from Pat Cummins.

The two spinners Ashton Agar and Adam Zampa controlled the run flow in the middle and made it really tough for the Lankan batters to score runs. They finally succumbed to pressure and procession of wickets took away any chances of a successful chase. The 2nd and final T20 will take place on the 30th in Brisbane
